Pharmacy Technician
The Pharmacy Technician certificate program at Contra Costa Medical Career College will give you the tools to enter the healthcare world as a professional in a retail pharmacy, hospital, home healthcare setting, mail order or pharmaceutical wholesalers industry.
Pharmacy Technicians may assist pharmacists in providing medications and healthcare products to patients. As a certified Pharmacy Tech, you’ll receive and verify prescriptions and prepare patient medication. CCMCC’s Pharmacy Technician classes will also train you to maintain client profiles and insurance claim forms. Pharmacy Techs are the key communication liaison between medical professionals, doctors, pharmacists and patients.
Contra Costa Medical Career Colleges Pharmacy Technician classes train you to:
- Prepare and provide medication and other health products to patients
- Mix intravenous solutions
- Count tablets and labeling bottles
- Receive electronic prescriptions from medical offices
- Handle computer order entry of prescriptions
- Receive written prescriptions and requests for patient refills
- Stock and inventory prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
The California State approved Pharmacy Technician program at CCMCC qualifies its students to sit for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (CPhT), administered by PTCB. More states and employers are requiring certification as reliance on Pharmacy Technicians grows.
Prescribed education leads to a healthy career as a Pharmacy Technician. Pharmacy Technicians are in high demand. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Pharmacy Technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012.
